Aloha Sundays... are back! After having a discussion with Grant and Sau, we decided to bring back Aloha Sundays. This time with our man Sau leading the charge. Saus been a get organizer and motivator, so we figured he'd be the best person to get this done. Grants also agreed to take up chef duties and cook up some vegetarian curry and rice. Here's a few of the events Sau has planned
a) warm-up event: trackstand "simon says."
b) sprints. it would not be group sprint, but one vs. one with partners selected by random draw. winners of each of these individual races will advance further until there remains only 1 vs. 1. the route would be around diamond head to provide stretches of down and uphill. ALSO: boys division and girls division.
c) cool-down event after the sprints: longest skid competition.
d) footdown
e) individual trick competition!!! so how about this format? impartial judges (those who do not do tricks) will rate individuals like the olympics. we will tally the judges points and determine winner. each individual will have either 3 or 5 minutes to show their best stuff.
f) trackstand "water balloon." toss a water balloon like a hot potato.

Organizer david lum created a fixed gear division in the makaha time trials for 2010. eight riders decided to take mr. lum up on the challenge and headed to makaha beach on a very early sunday morning. when we arrived, we were surprised to be greeted by john hamilton whom had ridden from honolulu to makaha on a track bicycle. according to mr. hamilton, "hey, fucking riding out to cheer you on. 3:49 am! 40+ miles. hope you have a place for me to ride back!"
the first fixed gear rider launched out at 7:49:30 AM with each of us following in thirty-second intervals. the time trial was set alongside 18km (approximately 11.18 miles) of scenic waianae coastline. a list of riders with their times are as follows:
sau 00:26:02/23.0 MPH
michael 00:27:26/21.9 MPH
kyle 00:27:28/21.8 MPH
seth 00:28:10/21.3 MPH
grant 00:29:08/20.6 MPH
clark 00:30:40/19.6 MPH
matt 00:31:09/19.3 MPH
colin 00:31:20/19.1 MPH
keep in mind that all but two riders were sporting steel track frames. in fact the fixed gear riders were presumably the only steel bicycle time trial participants in a sea of carbon fiber bicycles. a concise list is available via: http://www.mmhawaii.com/2010%20Makaha%20TT%20Overall.pdf
we would like to thank david lum for his gracious invitation.

My good friend John moved back to his hometown Riga, Latvia years ago. He sent me a link to this video of him and his friends riding around. I knew John through skating and graff but we never rode back then. Its nice to see friends and I sharing the same interests even on far ends of the world. It looks rough but fun to ride in the snow. I always wondered what Latvia looked like, its good to have a picture to put in my head finally.
In celebration of me being jobless, I've decided to put all remaining AF Logo tees on sale in the webstore. All now are only $15. There's only sizes Small and XLarge left, so swoop quickly.
